Sowing Legacy Movement is a network of committed individuals working together to
bring positive change through concrete actions and love. As a volunteer-based
organization, our movement has various programs which include supporting the
education of our scholars and conducting various outreach programs as well as
leadership trainings and meaningful fund raising events. We are founded here in
Bacolod City, Negros Occidental and we now have
chapters in Bicol, Cebu, Davao, Manila, Marinduque, Tanay and in some
cities and municipalities in Negros like in Himamaylan, Kabankalan, La
Castellana, Silay and Sagay.
Its
flagship project is known as “A Child Worker No More and Sponsor a Scholar”
project. The project was first conceptualized and implemented in 2014, with the
strategy, “How far will your 30 pesos a month go?” We believe that such title
captures the focus of this initiative which is to bring back children to school
and to support their educational and other needs. The project name has both of
our vision and the action we are calling for. It has the dream that we have for
today’s children and tomorrow’s hope while at the same time has that invitation
for all who can hear about our project. Our project title is told in a singular
perspective because each child is treated uniquely and in the most special way.
Each of them, every story and every dream--- matters to us. We know them not
just as additional scholars but as gems whose stories will always inspire us to
do all we can to sustain this project.
Education
is a right and should be among our priority. Though the government offers
educational programs, the participation of everyone and that sense of being
concerned about others, would bring a lot of development, innovations and
impact to the present society and to the next generation. Education is thus, a
means to touch lives and to empower communities. It is a means of touching the
future. It is a means to move the world.
Because of this, Sowing Legacy
Movement is continuing this initiative to aid the children and youth in the
country in reaching their aspiration. We are committing ourselves in efforts
that would replicate the project with our “Pledge Thirty Campaign.” The A Child
Worker No More and Sponsor a Scholar Project is expected to change the lives of
its scholars by inviting people from all walkways of life to support it. The
project aims to move the world through touching the lives of the scholars and of
the community, as well as the volunteers and leaders who are replicating the
project in their localities or fields.
SLM envisions of people moving the world through acts of sowing and leaving legacies. It is a movement of individuals and networks working together for empowerment of children, youth and communities. The volunteers conduct home visits
to keep a meaningful, authentic yet professional relationship to the scholars
and their families. Tutorial services are also offered to them, particularly in
subjects they have difficulty with.
Moreover, SLM conducts other
developmental activities such as legacy camps and leadership trainings, aside
from the outreach programs that it also organizes. The core leaders are
promoting the “Pledge 30 pesos Campaign” along with other fund raising
activities.
